Why should I switch from my can of shave cream foam to Hydroplane Shave Cream?
Traditional foam shave creams are comprised mainly of air and tiny bubbles. These tiny bubbles provide the cushion between your face and a razor. Unfortunately, they don't provide much cushion or lubrication which often results in razor drag, nicks and ingrown hairs. Hydroplane Shave Cream, on the other hand, is comprised of millions of beads of water-soluble, micro-silicone. This ingredient provides much more lubrication which results in greater razor glide. The water-soluble part means that the product does not break down when it comes into contact with water. Instead, it becomes slicker and slicker, ensuring a close but comfortable shave.
How much product should I use?
Apply a twenty-cent-sized amount to wet face. Add water continuously to face to slicken formula.
Does it have a fragrance?
There is no added fragrance in Hydroplane Shave Cream. It does have a natural fragrance due to the orange, grapefruit, lime and bergamot oils in the product.
Hydroplane Shave Cream is pricier than some of the other shave creams I've seen. Is it still a good value?
Yes, it is an excellent value because you need very little product in order to experience a great shave. An 236ml bottle can last for several months.
Does it contain any alcohol?
There is no alcohol in Hydroplane.
Does it contain Menthol?
No Menthol was left out of this product. While Menthol triggers a nice cooling effect, we believe it over stimulates skin during the shaving process, when the skin is most vulnerable.
I've seen Benzocaine in some competitive products. Does your shave cream contain this ingredient?
No we left out Benzocaine as well. Benzocaine is a numbing agent. We feel that our shave cream is such a superior product that we don't need to include a numbing agent in it. Shaving with a product that includes Benzocaine may also result in applying too much razor pressure while you shave which may be harmful to your skin.
Which razors do you recommend to use with Hydroplane?
Our three recommendations are Gillette Fusion, Gillette Mach3 and Schick Quattro.
Directions
Wash face with warm water, massage a twenty-cent-sized amount of Hydroplane Shave Cream, a foamless cream, onto wet face, shave, and then rinse with warm water. Want to heat things up? Blend with an equal amount of Hot Towel Pre-Shave Treatment before you whip out the razor. CONSTANTLY ADD WARM WATER TO HYDROPLANE ON FACE TO INCREASE SLICKNESS OF FORMULATION.  The best shaving lubricant I've ever used.
Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane shave cream is a lotion-style shave cream (ie. it doesn't foam when applied to your skin). According to the packaging, it's made up of millions of "micro sillicone beads". It does have a slightly gritty feel to it (though nothing at all uncomfortable), which makes the "sillicone bead" description sound reasonable.
Applying Hydroplane is pretty simple: just rub it into your skin after you've thoroughly moistened it with water, then shave normally. Hydroplane is persistent, so it won't dry up like some shaving lubricants, and it doesn't require any additional water after it's been applied. It'll easily last through your entire shave.
Lubrication, irritation protection, and nick protection are all excellent. Hydroplane washes out of your blade very easily, too, with one of the lowest gunk factors I've experienced in a shaving lubricant. As shaving lubricants go, I can find no fault with this one.
Hydroplane is a premium product in every sense of the word. A 236ml bottle retails for $30 from the Billy Jealousy website (at this writing). The bottle's a good size, and it'll last a while (you only need a small amount for each shave), but it's still very expensive.
Overall, Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane shave cream may be the best shaving lubricant I've ever used (and I've used dozens of them over the years). It's expensive, but it's worth the price, in my opinion. If you're looking for a very close, comfortable shave with no irritation, Hydroplane is very much worth trying out. Innovative, Effective, and DAMN Cool!,
I've been using Hydroplane (along with the Hot Towel pre-shave treatment and Shaved Ice after shave) for just under a year now, and couldn't be happier! After reading a review of the Hot Towel in a national magazine (I believe it was Stuff), I decided to switch from a competing product, and give this brand a shot...
Hydroplane is great stuff! I can't remember the last time I had such a close shave with ZERO irritation. My facial hair grows in several different directions, and no matter what products I've tried before, I've always been faced with red face, ingrown hairs, and other various problems. Not any more!
You can actually feel the difference the silicone beads provide, as the shave is close, smooth, and comfortable.
Beyond that, the rest of the Billy Jealousy products have been superior to anything I've used in the past. I highly recommend the Hot Towel, which really is like getting that hot towel shave from a barber, along with the Shaved Ice, with it's nice, cool clean feeling afterwards. by Joshua Gordon
Best Shaving Cream
I have really sensitive skin and always dreaded the morning shave. Until I found this product. It gives me a smooth, close shave without nicks or cuts, and it leaves my skin soft and looking good, with no little red bumps.
